Waltham 29 Broccoli produces 4-8″ main heads with abundant shoot production as well. Perks include high yields and compact, uniform heads. Developed in Waltham, MA in 1950.

Broccoli – Waltham 29 – Brassica oleracea var. italica

Soil & Water: Broccoli should be planted in well-composted soil with good drainage and air circulation. Plants prefer a soil pH of 6.2-7.2.

Planting & Growing: Planted in fall and harvested in spring. Plant 4-6 weeks before fall frost. Plant in ground when 3″ tall and bury stem 1″ deeper than they were in pots.

Harvesting & Storage: Harvest shoots early, then harvest heads when they are tight, before flowers appear. Side heads may continue to produce for several weeks.
