This isn’t the same as regular spinach, but this variety keeps producing throughout the summer, despite the heat. It tastes similar to spinach and is high in vitamin C and vitamin A. Old heirloom from England in 1772.

Spinach – New Zealand – Tetragonia tetragonioides

Soil & Water: Prefers well-drained, fertile soil and sunny conditions.

Planting & Growing: Soak seeds before planting (2-8 hours in warm water or 24 hours in room temperature water) to increase germination. Keep soil moist until germination occurs. Some sources say New Zealand Spinach can be slower and more difficult to germinate. It likes compost, mulch, and water. New Zealand Spinach tolerates heat too.
